NSW police probe stabbing - Balgownie, near Wollongong

Police are investigating following a stabbing in the Illawarra today, NSW Police say.

About 6.30pm today, emergency services were called to a liquor store on Balgownie Road, Balgownie when an apparently injured man entered the store.

A 62-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics for a small puncture wound to his abdomen.

His injury was not considered life-threatening and he was taken to Wollongong Hospital in a stable condition.

Police from Wollongong Local Area Command were advised of the incident and attended the scene.

Initial investigations suggest the man was approached by an unknown person(s) on Farrell Street who injured the man with an unknown object.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Wollongong Detectives or Crime Stoppers.
