Police have commenced an investigation after a car deliberately drove at an officer in a carpark in Sydney's Inner West overnight.
About 1.15am today (Sunday 23 June 2024), police were called to a unit block on the Princes Highway, St Peters, following reports of a break and enter.
On arrival, three officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command confronted two males in an underground car park.
The two males entered a white Volkswagen Golf and began to drive off.
When police attempted to stop the car, the vehicle drove directly at a constable.
The officer drew their weapon and a single shot was fired at the vehicle before it fled the scene.
Police have not received any reports of injuries.
Officers established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.
About 2am, emergency services were called to an underground car park on Harris Street, Pyrmont, following reports of a car fire.
The fire was extinguished by Fire and Rescue NSW.
There were no reports of injuries.
Following investigations, police have identified the damaged vehicle is the same vehicle from the earlier incident.
Police have established a crime scene and the vehicle is currently undergoing forensic examination.
