A man will face court today after an alleged police pursuit near Lake Macquarie last night, NSW Police say.
About 11.15pm (Sunday 15 April 2018), officers from Lake Macquarie Police District were patrolling on Neilsen Street, Edgeworth, when they attempted to stop a blue Holden utility for the purpose of a random breath test.
Police will allege the driver failed to stop when instructed, before accelerating to speeds of approximately 80km/h in a 60km/h zone.
Officers initated a pursuit of the Holden, which was terminated when the driver fled the vehicle on foot.
The 38-year-old man allegedly jumped into a creek as police established a perimeter.
The man was arrested after a struggle.
He was taken to John Hunter Hospital where he refused to undergo mandatory testing, before being taken to Toronto Police Station.
Officers searched the vehicle and seized illicit drugs, an illicit weapon and other items.
The man was charged with police pursuit, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, refuse to submit to taking of blood sample, refuse or fail to provide urine sample, resist officer in execution of duty, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, possess prohibited drug and have custody of an offensive implement in a public place.
He was refused bail and will appear at Toronto Local Court today (Monday 16 April 2018).
