Police are appealing for information after a woman was threatened with a knife during a home invasion in Homebush West today, NSW Police say.

About 10.30am today, a 23-year-old woman was inside her unit on Courallie Avenue with her 16-month-old son.

A man, described as Caucasian in appearance, wearing a black jumper and jeans, and had a black scarf covering his face, entered her ground floor unit via the balcony sliding door and walked towards her holding a knife.

The man threatened the woman and demanded money as he pushed her against a wall and punched her a number of times.

He ransacked a bedroom searching for money before running from the location empty handed.

Police were called and a crime scene was established.

Investigations continue and police would like to speak with anyone who may have information that could assist.
