NSW police Transport Command supports Missing Persons Week

The Police Transport Command will be out in force this week, as part of National Missing Persons Week 2017, to raise awareness of the issues and impacts surrounding missing persons, NSW Police say.

The annual campaign began yesterday and will continue until Saturday (5 August 2017).

Officers attached to the Police Transport Command will be engaging with the community at various transport interchanges, where they’ll be distributing information about the state-wide campaign and people who remain missing in NSW.

Police will have stalls erected at Campbelltown, Chatswood, Hornsby and Broadmeadow Railway Stations tomorrow; Wyong and Woy Woy Railway Stations on Wednesday (2 August 2017); Sutherland, Epping, Parramatta and Gordon Railway Stations on Thursday (3 August 2017); Wollongong interchange on Friday (4 August 2017); and Central Railway Station throughout the week.

Police Transport and Public Safety Commander, Assistant Commissioner Karen Webb, said by engaging with the community police hope to gather new information about those who remain missing in NSW.

"We know that missing persons often utilise the public transport network to move around the state and access facilities for shelter," Assistant Commissioner Webb said.

"It’s likely that commuters at any given transport interchange may have therefore had contact with a missing person and could assist police in bringing them home safely.

"If our presence at railway stations this week can prompt someone to come forward with information that helps a family find their loved one, then that’s a terrific result," Assistant Commissioner Webb said.

If anybody has information in relation to a missing person they can contact Crime Stoppers.
