NSW police urge the public to plan their trip ahead of Emirates Australian Open golf tournament

Police are urging the community to plan their trip ahead of time and travel safely on the roads as this year’s Emirates Australian Open golf competition gets into full swing, NSW Police say.

The Emirates Australian Open 2018 competition begins tomorrow (Thursday 15 November 2018) and continues until Sunday 18 November 2018, at The Lakes Golf Club, Eastlakes.

A high-visibility police operation will be in place for the duration of the event, to ensure the safety and security of more than 35,000 people expected to descend on the course throughout the event.

Operation Commander, Superintendent Gavin Dengate urged those making their way to the event to drive safely on the roads and utilise public transport where possible.

"With thousands of spectators expected to attend the Emirates Australian Open over the next few days, police are urging motorists to drive to the conditions and allow extra travel time as there may be traffic and delays," Supt Dengate said.

"For those that choose to consume alcohol throughout the day, do not drink to excess and if you’re planning on driving, please make sure you have a Plan B, like a designated driver or use public transport.

"Our number one priority is to deliver a safe and family-friendly event that everyone can enjoy," said Supt Dengate.
