A Northern Territory industry delegation will depart for Vietnam today, seizing on the momentum of the Investment Summit to deepen trade, business and education ties across one of Southeast Asia's fastest growing economies.
Over three days, the delegation will advance trade, business and international education partnerships and open new commercial opportunities for Territory businesses in-market.
Vietnam is an important trade and investment partner for the Northern Territory, and this delegation reaffirms the Territory as a committed and trusted economic partner.
The Northern Territory Government will lead an industry delegation to Vietnam from 11 to 13 August 2026 to advance trade, business and international education partnerships between the two regions.
Building on the momentum of the Investment Summit, the delegation strengthens the Territory's position as a strategic investment location and a trusted partner, and shows the Territory is open for business.
Vietnam is one of Southeast Asia's fastest growing economies and one of Australia's key emerging trading partners, sharing a dynamic relationship with the Territory built on trade, investment, and regional cooperation.
International education is a cornerstone of that relationship and a key driver of economic growth. It is the Territory's second largest service export, generating $287.1 million in export revenue and supporting more than 1,700 jobs in 2024. Vietnam is one of the largest sources of international students for the Territory, and growing this cohort is a key government priority.
During the visit, delegates will meet with more than 60 Vietnamese education agents and recruitment partners to raise awareness of the Northern Territory as a study destination. The Government is also continuing to engage with airlines to secure aviation partnerships and improve connectivity.
Vietnam remains a key destination for Northern Territory live cattle and buffalo exports, with growing demand for cotton, tropical agriculture, and sustainable food systems.
The delegation includes representatives from Charles Darwin University, the International College of Advanced Education, Alana Kaye College, Canterbury Institute of Management, Darwin City College, Australian City International College, Haileybury Rendall School, and the Chamber of Commerce NT.
Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations, Robyn Cahill, said Vietnam was an important economic and strategic partner, with strong and expanding links to the Northern Territory through tourism, international education, trade, and business.
"This delegation will reaffirm existing relationships and explore new opportunities to improve aviation connectivity, attract more visitors and students, create new commercial opportunities for local businesses, and strengthen our role as a strategic gateway to Southeast Asia," Minister Cahill said.
The estimated costs for the Minister are $5,600, with final costs to be reported after the trip in line with standard reporting processes.
