NT Screen Industry Development Plan 2018 – 2020 Released

Backing its record $9 million investment in the Territory screen industry, the Territory Government has today released a new NT Screen Industry Development Plan, presenting a clear vision and plan to create more jobs and increase the sustainability and success of local screen businesses.

Developed in consultation with the NT screen industry, the three-year plan provides a framework for achieving a shared vision to support the growth, creativity, capability and professionalism of the screen sector.

Minister for Tourism and Culture Lauren Moss said the Territorys screen industry was highly regarded for its contribution to our cultural wellbeing and creative economy.

The strategy covers five key priorities:

  • Build a healthy and self-sustaining screen industry
  • Strengthen recognition of local screen industry talent, assets, capabilities and industry contributions
  • Invest in strong partnerships and collaborations
  • Foster creativity, high production quality, innovation and new skills
  • Provide efficient and effective services to the screen industry.

In addition to releasing the Plan, the Territory Labor Government is also calling for nominees to join a newly established Screen Industry Advisory Council (SIAC) that will support the implementation of the Plan and work with Screen Territory on growing the industry.

Expressions of interest open today and close on 25 November 2018. A registration form can be downloaded at www.screenterritory.nt.gov.au

Importantly, the current screen grants program remain accessible to industry on an interim basis. Once the SIAC convenes, it will provide guidance on the development of new funding programs to align with the new NT Screen Industry Development Plan. Finalisation of the new programs is anticipated early 2019.

As stated by Minister for Tourism and Culture, Lauren Moss

The Territory Government is investing a record $9 million into our film and screen sector over four years, recognising its importance in sharing the Territorys story with the world and its economic potential to the Territory.

The new council will provide a key advisory role for Government, guiding our efforts to invest in initiatives that will grow and develop and build a self-sustaining screen industry as part of our broader cultural economy.
