NTFES - Structure Fire

NT Government

At around 7:30pm Friday evening, NT Fire and Rescue Service (NTFRS) responded to an automatic fire alarm at a hotel on the Esplanade, Darwin City.

When fire crews arrived, there was a distinct smell of smoke throughout the building. They located the fire in a storeroom on the 6th level of the building.

Large amounts of smoke impacted the complete structure.

Hotel guests safely evacuated with no report of injuries, and everyone accounted for.

The fire was brought under control and extinguished.

The building was then ventilated with extensive air monitoring conducted before handing back control to building occupants around midnight.

Fire investigators are now attending the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

Fire Watch Commander Craig Slack said, 'I commend the quick response and actions of Firefighters to locate the fire in a storeroom and extinguish before spreading throughout the building.'
