NTPF Launches Operation Whirlwind

The Northern Territory Police Force (NTPF) has launched Operation Whirlwind in response to the anticipated presence of members and associates of the Outlaws, a recognised Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG), in the Alice Springs region.

As part of the operation, residents can expect to see a significant and highly visible police presence across Alice Springs and surrounding areas as police conduct a range of compliance and enforcement activities focused on disrupting criminal behaviour linked to OMCG activity.

Additional officers are being deployed from across the Territory to support the operation. As well as targeting OMCG linked offending, they will support local police, traffic enforcement and response to antisocial behaviour.

Superintendent Drew Slape said police will be maintaining a strong and visible presence throughout Central Australia for the week.

"Operation Whirlwind is a proactive response to the presence of the Outlaws OMCG in the region. Residents will see more police on the streets this week, and that presence will support community safety across Alice Springs more broadly.

"Our message is clear, criminal activity linked to outlaw motorcycle gangs will not be tolerated in the Territory.

"We know that their illegal activities cause a tremendous amount of harm and specifically target vulnerable members of our communities.

"The NTPF remains committed to maintaining community safety and will adopt a zero-tolerance approach to unlawful behaviour identified during this period."

Anyone who witnesses crime or antisocial behaviour is urged to contact police on 131 444. Anonymous reports can be made through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via https://www.crimestoppersnt.com.au. In an emergency, dial 000.
