NT's Newest Firefighters Ready For Shift

The Northern Territory Fire and Emergency Services is pleased to announce the graduation of Recruit Squad 51, a group of 12 dedicated new firefighters who are ready to serve the Territory.

Having completed an intensive 20-week training program, the graduates will formally commence their service with the NT Fire and Rescue Service (NTFRS) next month and enhance emergency response capabilities across the NT.

The recruits completed a rigorous program that included:

Road crash rescue Advanced first aidUrban search and rescueOn and off-road drivingHazardous materials (HAZMAT)Wildfire responseBreathing apparatus (BA)Pump operationsCommunicationsUrban fire suppression

4 of the graduates will be based in Alice Springs, whilst the remaining 8 will serve in Darwin.

As part of the training course, recruits are recognised through awards, and for Squad 51, the Firefighting Excellence Award went to Recruit Firefighter Ben Phasey, the Academic Excellence Award was awarded to Recruit Firefighter Jack Hopkinson and Recruit Firefighter Josh Farrar took out the prestigious Silver Axe Award, which is presented to the recruit who has shown exemplary achievements in all facets of fire service.

The next round of NTFRS recruits will commence their training next month.
