Swan Hill Rural City Council is excited to announce it has secured $450,000 in funding through Round 2 of the Victorian Government's Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.
The funding will support the transformation of the former WJ Rose Pavilion at the Nyah Recreation Reserve into a modern, multi-use indoor sports and fitness space. This long-awaited project has been a key priority for the Nyah District Cricket Club and is aligned with the Nyah District Community Plan.
The upgraded facility will be a dynamic hub for sport and fitness, incorporating a three-bay indoor cricket practice net, a range of fixed fitness stations, a 50m² open zone perfect for pilates and circuit training, a netball goal post with full line markings, professional-grade lighting, and a durable synthetic turf-over-concrete surface for all year-round enjoyment.
Swan Hill Rural City Council will contribute $60,000, with an additional $70,000 in public and in-kind support, reflecting strong community backing for the project.
Mayor Stuart King welcomed the announcement, saying "This is a fantastic outcome for the Nyah community. The redevelopment of the WJ Rose Pavilion has been a key priority for some time, and we're thrilled to see it moving forward."
"This new facility will provide an exciting, redeveloped space for sport, fitness and recreation, supporting healthier lifestyles and broad community benefits,"
"Strong community support of the Nyah Football Netball Club and Cricket Club over a long period of time have ensured both their on-field success, and success of junior development programs with regional and state representatives," he added.
Director Development and Planning, Michelle Grainger, also commented "The level of community support and collaboration behind this project has been outstanding. We're proud to be working alongside residents to deliver a space that meets their needs and aspirations.
Nyah District Cricket Club President, Owen Harrop, says 'The new nets will provide a professional-grade training environment for our existing players and will attract more juniors to the game. Having year-round use will open more opportunities for coaching, skills development and junior programs'
Works are expected to commence early 2026, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for sport and recreation in Nyah.
