NZ police Recruitment event - Tairāwhiti

Three Tairāwhiti Police Constables who've joined Police in the last year say they're loving the variety of work and the opportunity to help people. They want you to come to their recruitment evening to show you why.

Come along, ask questions about the job and what it entails, and the career avenues available within the Police.

Constables Komal Kaur, Katy Trew and Ian Tichborne are all frontline officers in Gisborne and say they wouldn't want to be doing any other job.

Komal graduated Police College just over a year ago. Before applying for Police, she completed the EIT Services Pathway Programme in Gisborne which gives students a taste of life in the services or the Police.

She says her biggest challenge getting into Police was the fitness requirements: "With the support of other Police officers I was able to pass the test and joined the first Police Wing into Police College after the COVID lockdown."

Constable Katy Trew agrees and says she loves going to work and dealing with the wide variety of people they connect with.

"Just recently I spoke to some children who were being bullied and I also spoke to the alleged bully. I was able to give them advice and work through ways of improving the situation," says Katy.

Tokomaru Bay bred Constable Ian Tichborne always wanted to join Police but was keen to get some life experience first. So, he spent nine years in the army before fulfilling his dream and becoming a Police officer.

"It's an awesome job. Every day is different and as Police officers we are in a position to help make a difference in people's lives," says Ian.

Ian's advice to those considering a career in Police is to not give up.

"Come along next week and see for yourself - you may have what it takes."
