Off-duty officer arrests man - Fairy Meadow

An off-duty police officer has arrested a man following an incident in Fairy Meadow, near Wollongong, yesterday.

About 3.30pm (Wednesday 9 October 2019), the officer observed a man and two women in an argument outside a store on the Princes Highway.

The man allegedly swung a carton of beer between the two women, colliding with the glass door of the store and causing a large crack in the glass.

The officer approached the man nearby on Elliots Road, identifying himself as a police officer, when the man allegedly swore and attempted to leave.

The officer restrained the 37-year-old man before officers attached to Wollongong Police District attended.

The man was taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with malicious damage and resist/ hinder police.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 12 November 2019

The off-duty officer – attached to the Police Transport Command – was not injured during the incident.
