The time restrictions on the off-leash dog area at Lady Robinsons Beach Kyeemagh have been suspended allowing dogs to be off-leash 24 hours a day.
This is a temporary measure until the start of the October long weekend.
"Now more than ever, as a result of the stricter lockdown measures, and in line with the Public Health Orders, the community is in need of opportunities for COVID safe, passive recreation," Mayor Joe Awada said.
"The off-leash area was dedicated in response to public demand and following a very successful trial," Mayor Awada said.
The temporary extension of the current hours of operation for the Off-Leash Dog Exercise Area at Lady Robinsons Beach, Kyeemagh is effective immediately and will remain in place until the beginning of the October long weekend.
Council is in the process of updating beach signage to reflect the changes.
The popular off-leash area at Lady Robinson Beach has been operational during restricted hours since 2018.
