Officer assaulted; man charged at Broken Hill

A man will appear in court next month charged after a police officer was allegedly assaulted in the state's Far West last week.

About 10pm on Thursday (27 August 2020), officers attached to Barrier Police District attended a home on Oxide Street, Broken Hill, after reports a man allegedly assaulted a woman during a domestic-related incident.

Officers attempted to arrest the man when he kicked and thrashed out causing police to fall to the ground.

A leading senior constable was treated at Broken Hill Hospital for an injury to her wrist.

The 26-year-old man was arrested and taken to Broken Hill Police Station where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts destroy or damage property, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm and resist officer in execution of duty.

He was given conditional bail to appear at Broken Hill Local Court on Tuesday 22 September 2020.
