Officer charged - Western Region 28 December

A serving NSW Police officer has been charged with an alleged on-duty assault in the state's north earlier this year.

In June 2022, an investigation was commenced by officers attached to New England Police District following allegations of police misconduct during an arrest on Sunday 12 June 2022.

Following investigations, a 54-year-old leading senior constable – attached to a Western Region police district – was issued with a future court attendance notice today (Wednesday 28 December 2022) for the offences of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault, tamper with evidence with intent to mislead judicial tribunal, and do act intending to pervert the course of justice.

The man is due to appear at Armidale Local Court on Monday 6 February 2023.

The officer's employment status is under review.
