A police officer has been charged with assault after a woman was injured during a protest in Sydney's west in June this year.
On Friday 27 June 2025 officers were called to a protest in front of a business at Lakemba Street, Belmore.
As police attempted to move on some of the protesters a 35-year-old woman sustained facial injuries and was hospitalised for treatment.
An investigation was launched by the NSW Police Professional Standards Command.
Today (Tuesday 23 September 2025), a 33-year-old officer – a senior constable attached to a specialist command in the South West Metropolitan Region – was issued a court attendance notice for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He is due to appear before Bankstown Local Court on Tuesday 18 November 2025.
The officer is being managed in the workplace and his employment status is under review.
A critical incident investigation which was launched following the incident and oversighted by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission, remains active and current.
