Officers assaulted, man charged in Ultimo

Two police officers were allegedly assaulted during the arrest of a man wanted on two outstanding warrants in Ultimo yesterday, NSW Police say.

Just before 2.30pm today, officers from Sydney City Local Area Command were patrolling Wattle Lane when they spoke to the driver of a parked vehicle.

Subsequent checks revealed the man was allegedly unlicensed and wanted for two outstanding warrants.

The man allegedly resisted the two officers when they attempted to arrest him.

A male constable suffered grazes to his left hand and elbow after he was pushed into a brick wall.

A male senior constable suffered grazes to his head and knee before the man was handcuffed.

Police allegedly located several clear resealable plastic bags containing what is believed to be heroin and methyl amphetamine (‘Ice’) during a subsequent search of the man. All items were secured for forensic analysis.

The 33-year-old man was taken to Day Street Police Station where he was charged with the outstanding warrants and with assaulting police, resisting arrest, possess prohibited drug and supply prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today tomorrow.

Both officers were treated for cuts and abrasions and completed their shifts without further incident.
