Officers assaulted, man charged, NSW

A man will face court today after allegedly assaulting a police officer in Sydney’s east, NSW Police say.

Police were called to a hotel on Darlinghurst Road, Potts Point, about 10.45pm yesterday (Saturday 14 July 2018), following reports of a domestic incident.

Upon arrival, police attempted to speak to a 24-year-old man, however he became aggressive and began to resist arrest before assaulting police.

A 30-year-old male leading senior constable was kicked in the face, two male officers, aged 21 and 24 were both bitten, with 24-year-old constable also being punched in the face.

The man was arrested and taken to Kings Cross Police Station, were he allegedly spat at a 32-year-old male leading senior constable, while continuing to threaten officers.

He was charged with five counts of assault police, cause grievous bodily to police, resist arrest, intimidate police and breach of bail.

The man, from Lethbridge Park, was refused bail and is due to face Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 15 July 2018) via audio visual link.

All officers were treated by paramedics, with the Leading Senior Constable expected to undergo dental surgery for damage to his teeth.
