Officers assaulted, NSW

Two police were treated in hospital following an incident on the state’s Far North Coast yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 2.30pm today, police from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command were called to a home in Zara, following reports of a concern for welfare.

When police attempted to speak with the man in the home, he allegedly became aggressive towards another occupant in the house.

The man allegedly attacked two officers and a struggle occurred, where the man punched and spat at police.

The man was arrested a short time later and taken into custody.

Two male officers – a senior constable and a constable – were taken to Tweed Heads Hospital for treatment.

The senior constable was treated for a neck injury and the constable for an injury to his hand.

Both were later released following treatment.

A 22-year-old man was also taken to Tweed Heads Hospital and upon his release; charges are expected to be laid.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
