Officers escape serious injury in crash in Waterloo

Two police officers have escaped serious injury after being involved in a crash at Waterloo this morning, NSW Police say.

They were driving along Lachlan Street when their caged truck and a tip-truck collided at the intersection with South Dowling Street, Waterloo, shortly before 4.30am today.

The officers, from Eastern Suburbs Local Area Command, were responding on urgent duty to a domestic-violence incident when the crash occurred.

The 39-year-old constable travelling in the front-passenger seat was trapped for an hour before being released.

He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where he is undergoing tests for injuries to his left leg.

The driver of the police vehicle is being treated for minor injuries while the truck driver was not injured.

An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is now underway.
