Official Fire Danger Period set to end

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) has advised fire restrictions for Macedon Ranges Shire will be lifted at 1am on Monday 22 March.

After this time residents will be able to burn off on their properties without a permit, subject to local regulations. Under Council's Local Law burning off is prohibited on land less than 4,000 square metres (one acre) without a permit.

"Although the Fire Danger Period has lifted, when burning off on your property it's important to keep an eye on weather conditions through-out the day, remain vigilant and monitor your fire," said Angela Hughes, Director Planning and Environment.

"Free disposal of larger loads of green waste (excluding noxious weeds) is available at Council's transfer stations and we encourage residents to consider this option. For locations and opening hours, visit our transfer stations webpage."

Large landholders who wish to conduct a burn that does not fit the conditions outlined in Council's Local Law should contact Council's Fire Management Officer on 5422 0333 to discuss applying for a free permit to burn.

For more information about burning off in the Macedon Ranges outside the Fire Danger Period, call Council on 5422 0333 or visit the burning off webpage.
