Minister for Police Mark Ryan today joined Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll to officially open a new Evidence Management Facility in the western suburbs of Brisbane.
Minister Ryan said the purpose-designed facility would house evidence and the police armoury.
"This state-of-the-art building is a testament to the Palaszczuk Government's commitment to smart policing," he said.
"Police need modern amenities so they can respond flexibly to the challenges of the future.
"A world class police service deserves world class facilities, and that's exactly what we've delivered here."
The new facility contains specialized forensic examination spaces, a vehicle examination garage, climate-controlled storage for cold case evidence, and a significant increase in capacity for general exhibits.
Minister Ryan praised the size of the facility, which houses over 37,000 exhibits, 50 motor vehicles and 600 pallets of interview tapes.
"This facility gives our police the additional tools they need to keep Queenslanders safe," he said.
"Innovation and technology will help us solve more crimes, faster than ever before.
"The Palaszczuk Government will continue to invest in the infrastructure and resources our police need to keep us safe."
Commissioner Carroll said the new facility was a vital tool enhancing the capabilities of the QPS.
"The facility incorporates the latest technology and security features allowing us to adapt to change and giving officers access to the latest forensic methods to aid investigations," she said.
