Ogilvie hiding from Ministerial responsibilities

Tasmanian Labor

Today was the launch of the Group 1 Ladbrokes Hobart Thousand, one of the biggest days on the Tasmanian racing calendar, yet Racing Minister Madeleine Ogilvie was nowhere to be seen.

After misleading parliament last week, Ms Ogilvie's failure to turn up to the launch today was an embarrassing admission of guilt.

A key part of her job as Racing Minister is to support the Tasmanian racing industry - an important industry for the state worth almost $200 million. Minister Ogilvie cannot refuse to turn up and do her job because she does not want to answer questions.

Another essential part of her job is ensuring the integrity of the industry. We simply cannot have a Racing Minister who lies to the public, misleads the parliament and refuses to correct the record.

It is clear she must resign. If she won't, the Premier must sack her.
