OMCG member arrested for strangulation and domestic violence offences at Gold Coast

Last night, police charged a 35-year-old member of the Rebels OMCG with strangulation, assault and domestic violence order offences following an investigation from an incident that occurred on 3 and 5 May 2019 at the Gold Coast.

During multiple incidents over a two-day period, it will be alleged that the Rebels OMCG member from Willow Vale has attempted to strangle and assault his 25-year-old female de-facto partner. A current domestic violence protection order was in place at the time of these alleged incidents.

It will be alleged that one of the violent incidents took place in a public carpark in Siganto Drive Helensvale. Members of the public assisted the female victim to safety and contacted police and ambulance services on her behalf.

Following this, investigators from State Crime Command's Taskforce Maxima have undertaken significant investigations, supported by Gold Coast Police.

On 7 May, police located the 35-year-old male suspect and subsequently executed a search warrant at his Gold Coast address seizing several items.

He was charged with two counts of strangulation in a domestic setting, common assault and three counts of contravention of a domestic violence order.

He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.

"Taskforce Maxima will continue to protect the victims of domestic violence and target OMCG offenders who commit crime in our community.

"Detectives from State Crime Command continue to engage and work in partnership with South East Queensland Domestic Violence police coordinators, high risk teams and external agencies to ensure an integrated service response for gang related domestic and family violence", Acting Detective Inspector Jacquelyn McLeod said.
