One man dies after boat sank - Wallis Lake

One man has died and another remains in hospital after their boat sank on the Mid North Coast.

Emergency services were called to Coomba Road at Whoota, about 10km north-east of Boomerang Beach, about 5am this morning (Thursday 20 August 2020).

Police have been told two men – aged 37 and 48 – were on Wallis Lake yesterday evening (Wednesday 19 August 2020), when their boat took on water and sank about 6pm.

The pair remained in the water for the duration of the evening, clinging to part of the vessel and other floatation devices before making it to shore in the early hours of the morning.

The younger man flagged down a passing motorist, who rendered assistance and called emergency services.

Both men were taken to Manning Base Hospital, where the 48-year-old died earlier today. The younger man remains in a stable condition.

The vessel has been located, with NSW Marine Rescue and NSW Maritime assisting to retrieve it.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
