Almost half of the heavy vehicles inspected during a joint operation at Sydney’s inner west has resulted in defect notices, NSW Police say.
NSW Police Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Flemington Highway Patrol and Roads and Maritime Services specialists conducted Operation Alliance 4, yesterday.
The police operation, at Sydney Olympic Park and Flemington markets, focused on heavy vehicles in ongoing efforts to combat fatigue, speed, drugs, non-compliance offences and other defects.
Sixteen tow trucks and heavy vehicles were stopped and inspected.
As a result seven defect notices were issued, including two heavy vehicles which were issued notices for defective rear brakes, 11 infringements issued for breaches of Tow Truck industry Act and Regulations, and 10 infringements issued to other heavy vehicles including three load restraint breaches.
Operation Alliance 4 was a local operation within the Flemington Local Area Command.
Further operations are planned.
