Officers from the Joint Traffic Taskforce today inspected 37 heavy vehicles, issuing 17 defect notices and 22 infringement notices in western Sydney as part of an ongoing operation, NSW Police say.
today, officers from the Joint Traffic Task Force targeted heavy vehicles on major roads around Rosehill, during Operation Catapult 3, a continuation of an operation aimed at taking dangerous vehicles off the road.
The Joint Traffic Taskforce consists of officers from the NSW Police Traffic & Highway Patrol Command and Roads and Maritime inspectors working alongside officers from the Environmental Protection Authority, and SafeWork NSW.
Today’s operation resulted in 37 truck and trailers being inspected, where:
- Four electronic speed limiters were found to be non-compliant,
- 22 infringements were issued for various offences, and
- 17 defect notices were issued – including six major defect notices for defective brakes.
Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy of the Traffic & Highway Patrol Command said Joint Traffic Task Force operations will continue to ensure trucks are safe and compliant.
"The Joint Traffic Taskforce will continue to target the heavy vehicle industry until we can make sure that owners, operators and drivers are doing the right thing.
"We work closely with Roads and Maritime, the Environment Protection Authority and SafeWork NSW to ensure trucks are safe and compliant.
"Today we issued 22 infringements and handed out 17 defect notices for trucks that are not roadworthy. It is not good enough.
"We will continue to make everyone involved in the transport industry accountable until we can ensure that the public are safe," Assistant Commissioner Corboy said.
