Operation continues to rescue injured rock-climber at Blue Mountains

A rescue operation is continuing this morning to retrieve an injured rock-climber in the Blue Mountains.

Emergency services were called to the Point Pilcher Lookout, north of Medlow Bath, about 4pm yesterday (Sunday 17 May 2020) after the man fell while rock-climbing.

The man, believed to be aged in his 50s, suffered multiple fractures during the fall.

Officers from Blue Mountains Police Rescue, along with NSW Ambulance paramedics, attended and launched a rescue operation; however, that was suspended due to poor light.

The injured man and one of his companions were sheltered in a cave on the cliff face with rescue personnel overnight.

The operation is due to continue this morning (Monday 18 May 2020), and it is expected the man will be lowered to the valley floor before a helicopter extracts him.
