South Australia Police conducted Operation High Impact F5 between 14 and 20 September 2026.
The statewide road safety operation focused on the Fatal Five behaviours known to contribute to road trauma and death; drink and drug driving, speeding, distraction, dangerous driving and failing to wear seatbelts.
During the seven-day operation, 9,802 drivers were alco tested, with 78 drink driving detections.
A further 535 drug tests were conducted and, disappointingly, 101 drivers returned positive results.
Police detected 734 speeding offences during the operation, which involved both enforcement and education of drivers.
A total of 21 people were identified not wearing a seatbelt.
Police also detected 46 mobile phone offences and a further 642 distraction-related offences, demonstrating too many drivers continue to put themselves and others at risk.
During the operation, police impounded 104 vehicles, and 147 drivers were issued with an immediate loss of licence.
Unfortunately, during the operation period, one person lost their life, and nine people were seriously injured on South Australian roads.
Acting Superintendent Mark Atkinson, Officer in Charge, Traffic Services Branch said, "High-risk behaviours of the Fatal Five contribute heavily to death and serious injuries on our roads. Road safety should be a top priority for anyone getting behind the wheel."
