Operation Hornets - police recover 22 vehicles from Williamtown, NSW

Police have recovered 22 vehicles abandoned at Williamtown as a part of Operation Hornets, NSW Police say.

Police attached to Port Stephens Local Area Command – in conjunction with Royal Australian Air Force and the National Parks and Wildlife Service –commenced a co-ordinated operation relating to the illegal use of crown lands within Northern New South Wales.

On Thursday 18 August 2016, a joint operation was launched within the Crown Lands located around the Williamtown area. As a part of this operation, police recovered 22 abandoned vehicles. It has been established that seven of these vehicles were reported as stolen.

Further inquiries are continuing regarding the circumstances surrounding the other 15 vehicles which were located during the operation.

This follows on from the arrest of five people in June for offences relating to the illegal use of parklands within the Williamtown area.

Police from Port Stephens Local Area command are seeking anyone within information regarding any of the vehicles or misuse of Crown Lands around the Williamtown area to contact police.

Police are urging anyone with information that may assist police to call Crime Stopers.
