Operation Keen cracks down on wanted offenders, illicit substances at Narrabri

Methylamphetamine and heroin were among the illicit drugs seized during a two-day operation targeting wanted offenders and the transportation of illicit commodities in the state's North West Slopes.

Between Friday (13 September 2019) and Saturday (14 September 2019), officers attached to Oxley Police District conducted Operation Keen on the Newell Highway at Narrabri.

The operation was staffed with police from Oxley Criminal Investigation, Traffic and Highway Patrol, Oxley Target Action Group, Narrabri General Duties, and SPG Dog Unit.

In total, 767 motorists were breath tested, 39 infringement notices were issued and six people will be charged as a result of the operation.

Oxley Police District Commander, Acting Superintendent Kylie Endemi, was pleased with the results.

"Operation Keen is an excellent example of our ongoing and unwavering commitment to keeping our roads safe and disrupting the criminal activity associated with illegal substances within our community," she said.

About 3.30pm Friday (13 September 2019), police stopped and searched a Nissan Navara on the Newell Highway. Officers allegedly located 49.8g of a liquid substance suspected to be methylamphetamine. The liquid was sent for analysis.

About 8.45pm Friday (13 September 2019), a 20-year-old man was detected driving with a mid-range PCA of 0.097. The man's licence was suspended and he was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice to appear before Narrabri Local Court on Tuesday 29 October 2019.

About 1pm Saturday (14 September 2019), police arrested a 45-year-old man on an outstanding warrant. It is alleged the man was in possession of a small quantity of morphine and heroin. He was charged and bail refused, to appear before Moree Local Court today (Monday 16 September 2019). Inquiries continue.

About 8pm Saturday (14 September 2019), police observed a Toyota Prado allegedly avoiding an RBT site on the Newell Highway. The driver, a 24-year-old man, was on demerit point suspension and was detected 30km/h over the speed limit via radar. The man was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice.
