Operation Romeo Dambulla closure at Townsville

In February 2019 detectives from the Major and Organised Crime Squad (Northern) based in Townsville commenced Operation Romeo Dambulla targeting a syndicate involved in the trafficking of drugs in North Queensland.

Over the weekend (September 14 and September 15), the operation was closed following the execution of multiple search warrants at Townsville properties.

The operation has resulted in 16 people being arrested on 127 offences.

This includes five people charged with drug trafficking.

During the course of the operation investigators have seized approximately 2502 grams of cannabis, $63,010 in cash and a number of conducted energy weapons.

Detectives also seized a large quantity of high-end accessories and property that they will allege was purchased with the proceeds of drug trafficking.

Three people were charged for serious drug offences including trafficking and will appear in Townsville Magistrates Court today.

A number of people were issued Notices to Appear for minor drug offences. They will appear in Townsville Magistrates courts at later dates.
