Opposition Leader Reacts to Croydon Member's Retirement

Statement from Leader of the Opposition Brad Battin: Member for Croydon to retire at next election

David Hodgett has informed me that he will not be recontesting the seat of Croydon at the 2026 State Election.

David has been a tireless advocate for his community for nearly three decades, first as a local councillor and mayor, and since 2006 as the Member for Kilsyth and then Croydon.

His legacy is one of deep commitment to public service and delivering real outcomes for the people he represents.

Over his 20 years in Parliament, David has served with distinction - as a Minister, Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party, Shadow Minister across a range of portfolios, and in key leadership roles within the Parliament.

He has always brought integrity, passion, and purpose to his work, with a strong focus on community and a belief in leaving things better than he found them.

David will continue to serve in his current role in the Shadow Cabinet and remain an important part of the Liberal team as we work towards the 2026 election. I am grateful for his support and experience as we build a strong, united and forward-looking alternative to the Allan Labor Government.

David's departure will leave big shoes to fill. On behalf of the entire Liberal team, I thank him for his outstanding contribution to our party and to Victoria. I look forward to continuing to work with him over the coming year and wish him and his family all the very best for the future.
