Optus today announced a leadership transition in its Networks division. Chief Technology Officer Tony Baird will leave Optus following a transition period, with experienced telecommunications executive Sri Amirthalingam appointed as his successor.
Mr Amirthalingam, who has been Executive, Wireless Networks at Telstra, brings extensive experience in network operations and transformation, with a strong track record in building critical infrastructure.
During his 36-year career with Telstra, Mr Amirthalingam held leadership roles in investment strategy, technology roadmap development, and planning and construction for Telstra's fixed and mobile networks.
Mr Amirthalingam joins Optus in January 2026. Mr Baird will work closely with Mr Amirthalingam during the transition period to ensure continuity of leadership across our Networks division.
