Optus Gets High 5G by Ookla

Optus awarded title of Australias Fastest 5G Mobile Network

Optus 5G has raced to the top of the speed leader board after officially being awarded the coveted title of Australias fastest 5G Mobile Network by independent benchmarking company Ookla the global leader in fixed broadband and mobile network testing applications, data and analysis.

The Ookla Speedtest measured 5G mobile speeds from all 5G network providers in Australia for the two quarters of 2021, with data showing Optus achieved median download speeds of 323 Mbps* – a staggering 60 percent faster than one of its competitors.

Ookla analysed over 330,000 user-initiated 5G Speedtest results in the first half of the year to determine which carrier showed the fastest network speeds, with Optus taking out top spot overall as well as scoring the best latency result of 18 milliseconds.

Last year we made a commitment to our customers that we would build Australias fastest 5G network and Im proud to say were delivering. Speed is king when it comes to 5G and being awarded this title by Ookla firmly establishes Optus as the leader in 5G speed, said Matt Williams, Managing Director Marketing and Revenue.

We know that our customers want 5G, in fact eight out of every 10 devices we sell in store today are 5G capable. We also know that consumers expect 5G to be fast and with Ookla confirming that Optus has Australias fastest 5G we are excited for even more customers to experience it first-hand.

For us being authentic to the true attributes of 5G has always been our focus rather than trying to build our network the fastest. This means delivering ultra-fast 5G directly into the hands of our customers so they can benefit from uninterrupted high-definition streaming and lightning fast downloads – connecting them with technology that improves their lives on our world class network.

Speedtest Awards, presented by Ookla, are reserved for an elite delegation of network operators that have delivered exceptional internet performance and coverage within a market. It is our pleasure to present Optus with the award for 5G Mobile Network Speed in Australia. This recognition is testament to their exceptional performance in Q1Q2 2021 based on Ookla’s rigorous analysis of consumer-initiated tests taken with Speedtest,”said Doug Suttles, CEO at Ookla.

Optus currently has over one million 5G enabled devices on its network and over one million homes now eligible to access its award-winning 5G Home Internet.
