Are you caring for a loved one who is living with dementia? Dementia Australia is holding free family carer education workshop for family members and friends of a person diagnosed with dementia living in Adelaide.
In 2018, there are estimated to be more than 36,000 people living with dementia in South Australia and more than 3,700 of these people live in the federal electorate of Hindmarsh. It is a condition that touches many.
Without a medical breakthrough, the number of people living with dementia in South Australia is expected to increase to more than 47,000 people by 2028 and more than 73,000 people by 2058.
The aim of Dementia Australia’s education program is to provide support for South Australian residents living with dementia, by providing information to carers who are involved in their care.
Dementia Australia’s Family Carer Workshop provides information on maintaining a healthy and respectful relationship through effective communication and understanding between a person living with dementia and their care giver.
The workshop also provides carers with an opportunity to meet with others who are sharing a similar experience, allowing time to socialise and share important links to local support services that support carer well-being.
The workshop will be held in Osborne on Thursday 18 October.
Topics include:
• What is dementia?
• Effective communication activities
• Understand changed responses
• Activities for living and pleasure
• Support and Services available
Education is delivered in a friendly, safe and supportive environment by trained Dementia Australia staff.
Registrations are essential by Monday 15 October. To register, or for more information including location and time, please contact Dementia Australia on (08) 8372 2100.
