OSCE Backs 2023 Asian Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction

OSCE

On 20 October 2023, the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe (Office) supported the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense in the organization of the Asian Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) 2023. The conference was held in Dushanbe and brought together representatives of over 30 regional countries and international organizations involved in DRR and climate change.

One of the main themes covered in this event was digital transformation and integration in DRR to build stronger communities that are DRR resilient. Participants also reported on the implementation status of the Sendai Framework for 2015-2030, which outlines seven clear targets and four priorities for action to prevent new and reduce existing disaster risk. The conference served as a platform enabling the Government of Tajikistan to discuss harmonization of co-operation among regional countries on issues related to DRR.

The Office's support for this event is in line with the strategic goals of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 and Tajikistan's Mid-term State Program for the Protection of Population and Territories from Emergency Situations for 2023-2028. It is part of OSCE's broader work to support disaster preparedness, prevention, response, and recovery at a community level as well as at national and transboundary levels.
