The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina (Mission) strongly condemns attacks and threats reported against political actors in Pelagicevo and Rocevici/Zvornik ahead of the 8 February repeat presidential elections in Republika Sprska. Acts of violence and intimidation undermine fundamental democratic principles and can deter public participation. The Mission calls on relevant authorities to conduct a swift, thorough and impartial investigation, thereby bringing those responsible to justice. Political actors and activists must be able to conduct their activities freely and safely, without fear of violence, intimidation or reprisal. With such incidents occurring in the lead up to the elections, to avoid additional tension around a critical democratic process, the Mission urges authorities, political parties and citizens to ensure that the upcoming elections are safe, free from intimidation, and conducted fairly and democratically.
