Our kids Count visit Mt Druitt

Department of Customer Service

The NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages (the Registry) is hitting the road to promote the registration of Indigenous births with it's Our Kids Count campaign.

NSW Registrar Amanda Ianna said Our Kids Count will visit Mt Druitt to provide on the ground support to help Aboriginal parents register their child's birth.

"Birth certificates are an essential pathway to enrol in school, open a bank account, join sporting clubs, to enrol to vote and in applying for a job, a driver licence or a passport," Ms Ianna said.

"Ensuring kids have a birth certificate as soon as possible makes it easier for them and their families when growing up and navigating life."

The Registry works closely with local Aboriginal organisations, land councils, health, and non-government organisations to organise registration event and communicate the importance of birth registration within Indigenous communities.

Across the next 12 months the Registry will host birth registration events at geographical areas known to have consistently higher than average late or under registrations.

Event details: Wednesday, 23 March 2022, 10.30am to 2.00pm Baabayn Aboriginal Corporation, 252 Luxford Road, Emerton.
