Outcome Of Kerbside Bin Community Consultation

Lithgow Council

During June and July 2025, Council sought feedback from the community on two proposals for future waste services. These two proposals were based on options that were made available as part of a new bin collection contract that is starting in November 2026.

The first proposal was to retain the weekly collection of the red bin rather than change to a fortnightly collection. The majority of responses (93%) agreed with the proposal and the continuation of the weekly red bin collection was endorsed at the Council Meeting on 25 August.

The second proposal was to extend the kerbside bin collection area to some of areas that do not presently have the collection service. The majority of responses from throughout the entire LGA (76%) supported extending the collection area; however, the majority of responses from households in the affected areas (71%) opposed the extension of the kerbside bin collection service.

Based on the responses, the recommendation to keep the collection area the same as it is at present (and not extend the collection area) was also endorsed at the Council Meeting on 25 August.

Council thanks everyone who submitted a response and your feedback has made an important contribution to shaping future waste services to meet community needs and expectations.
