Outdoor dining opportunities

Greater Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher

The Victorian Government's funding announcement is fantastic news for Greater Geelong's hospitality industry and Council will definitely be taking advantage of this assistance to support a return to alfresco dining. Council recognises the significant impact ongoing restrictions have had on businesses and we are keen to start opening up again following the period of Stage 3 restrictions. Restoring Greater Geelong's vibrant hospitality industry will aid in the region's economic and social recovery and provide a huge morale boost.
The City team has been investigating options to support venues in expanding outdoor dining options for the past couple of weeks and will work with the various businesses and business associations to ensure a smooth transition. We appreciate that there are complexities and that finding options that work for all retailers and traders requires a clever and creative approach. The good news is that everyone's motivation is the same – to open the economy back up and provide services and products to our local community. Council is also discussing further COVID-19 support initiatives, on top of the $12.8 million in measures already announced, which will be revealed in the coming week.
