Outdoor Pools ready to make a splash

Seasonal outdoor pools at Yallourn North and Moe are ready for another bumper summer, with preparations complete ahead of the season opening on Saturday 30 November.

The Yallourn North outdoor pool will again offer free entry for the 2019/2020 summer season.

Latrobe City Council Mayor Cr Dan Clancey said if last week's warm weather is any indication, it looks set to be a hot summer ahead.

"We're excited that the outdoor pool season is upon us, especially after the early taste of summer we have experienced.

"The local pools are a great way to cool off, spend a family day out or for a spot to relax. They provide the perfect location to create wonderful summer memories.

"With picnic and barbeque amenities at both Yallourn North and Moe, I encourage families to have a day out and enjoy the facilities."

The pools will open under a weather dependant operating model to ensure that the venues are available when the weather is hot and the community is looking to make a splash and cool off.

Utilising the Bureau of Metrology forecast from 4pm the day prior, the following opening hours will be enacted;

  • Forecast 32 degrees or above - 10.00am - 7:00pm
  • Forecast 25 degrees or above - 12:00pm - 7:00pm
  • Forecast 24 degrees or below all pools will be closed

The pools will operate until the long weekend in March and weather dependent will be open every day except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and News Year Day.

This summer will be the first in 60 years without the Traralgon Outdoor Pool. Construction of the Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre facility, at the home of the former Traralgon Outdoor Pool, is progressing well. This generational asset is due for completion in early 2021, and will feature a 25 metre geothermally heated outdoor pool.
