Outstanding QPS women recognised on International Women's Day

Awards were presented to QPS, QFES, IGEM and PSBA workers at the Public Safety International Women’s Day even, Queensland Police sayt

Ten awards for Women in Policing were presented to QPS staff from around the state yesterday as part of the Public Safety International Women’s Day event at the RNA.

Female police officers and staff, a male Inspector and a project were all awarded for their outstanding work within the QPS.

Leadership , mentoring and courage were recognised in the ceremony while other awards focused on recognition of initiatives and research.

Awards and recipients included:

  • Trailblazer Award – Senior Constable Debbie Haworth from Intelligence, Counter-Terrorism and Major Events Command
  • Mentor of the Year Award – Senior Sergeant Leonie Steyger from Northern Region
  • Courage Award – Senior Human Service Officer Sue Donovan from Northern Region
  • Most Outstanding Female Leader Award – Sergeant Cary Coolican from Northern Region
  • Most Outstanding Female Investigator Award – Detective Sergeant Jenny Beban from Intelligence, Counter-Terrorism and Major Events Command
  • Most Outstanding Female Practitioner Award – Senior Constable Louise Burke from South-East Region
  • Most Outstanding Female Administrator Award – Sergeant Danielle McVeigh from Southern Region
  • Excellence in Policing for Women Initiatives – Sergeant Julie Williams from South-East Region
  • Excellence in Research on Improving Policing for Women – Voice4Values Team from People Capability Command
  • Champion of Change Award – Acting Inspector Wade Fuller from People Capability Command

The awards were presented by Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan, Queensland Police Commissioner Ian Stewart, Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) Commissioner Katarina Carroll, Inspector General Emergency Management (IGEM) Chief Executive Officer Ian Mackenzie and Public Safety Business Agency (PSBA) Acting Chief Operations Officer Rod Wilson.

Awards were also presented to QFES, PSBA and IGEM officers and staff.
