Over $500,000 worth of aluminium transport pallets stolen; man charged, NSW

A man has been charged following an investigation into the alleged theft of more than $500,000 worth of aluminium transport pallets in Sydney’s west, NSW Police say.

In September 2018, officers from Auburn Police Area Command commenced an investigation after 36 aluminium transport pallets, worth approximately $14,000 each, were reported stolen from a market on Parramatta Road, Homebush West.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 41-year-old man at a car park in North Strathfield yesterday (Thursday 27 September 2018) and he was taken to Burwood Police Station.

Police will allege in court that, over a four-week period, the man stole pallets before selling them for scrap metal at various scrap metal yards in Sydney.

The man was charged with 18 offences, including:

  • larceny greater than $15,000 (x6);
  • larceny less than $5,000;
  • drive while disqualified (x8);
  • goods in custody suspected of being stolen;
  • obscure/deface number plate (x2).

The North Strathfield man appeared at Burwood Local Court yesterday (Thursday 26 September 2018) where he was refused bail to appear at the same court on Monday, 8 November 2018.
