Overdue plane, South Stradbroke Island

Police and emergency services are currently coordinating a search after a plane has been reported overdue after it left the Gold Coast this morning.

Initial information suggests that the plane left an airport at Southport at 10am for a short flight but failed to return.

Police were made aware at 3.15pm this afternoon and water police as well as officers from South Stradbroke Island have commenced searches along the last know route of the aircraft.

The aircraft is believed to have had a pilot and one passenger on board.

The search is continuing.
