Overnight pursuit Northern District, South Australia

A man has been charged with numerous offences after a pursuit with a stolen truck in the Northern Suburbs overnight.

Just after 9.20pm Thursday 31 January patrols spotted an Isuzu truck travelling through Munno Para West. Checks revealed the truck had been stolen from Elizabeth overnight between 2 and 3 January.

Patrols followed the truck from Stebonheath Road to Angle Vale Road where they activated their emergency lights to attempt to pull the truck over. The truck allegedly refused to stop for the patrol and a brief pursuit commenced.

The pursuit was terminated a short time later on Heaslip Road with the truck was seen heading on to the Northern Expressway.

The truck was spotted again a short time later travelling west on Womma Road before turning north onto a train track. The truck stopped when it drove into a ditch, the driver and sole occupant allegedly ran from the scene and was arrested a short distance away by patrols.

After a search of the surrounding area police located two firearms dumped near the railway tracks. The firearms have been seized as evidence.

The 35-year-old Smithfield Plains man has been charged with illegal use of motor vehicle, unassigned plates, drive dangerously to escape police pursuit, possess prescription drugs, possess firearm without licence and drive unlicenced. He was refused bail to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today.
