P-Plate driver way over limit in CBD

Melbourne Highway Patrol have charged a probationary driver with numerous traffic offences while the unit was taking part in Transport Accident Commission's campaign targeting drink drivers in the CBD.

The TAC's 'Operation Abandon' suggests drivers abandon their vehicle if they plan to drink.

Unfortunately, a 23-year-old man from Hoppers Crossing failed to adhere that advice.

A Holden Commodore was intercepted by police in Normanby Avenue at 11.30pm last night.

The driver underwent a preliminary breath test which resulted in an alleged reading of 0.034.

The Probationary driver was not displaying P-plates on the car, which belongs to his father.

The sedan was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $896.

The driver will appear in court at a later date.
