P-plater caught speeding, drink-driving and with drugs near Wagga Wagga, NSW

A P-plater will face court after he was allegedly caught speeding by more than 45km/h whilst drink-driving and with drugs on him near Wagga Wagga on Saturday, NSW Police say.

About 6.30am (4 February 2017), officers from the Traffic & Highway Patrol Command allegedly detected a Holden Rodeo utility travelling at 152km/h on the Hume Highway at Mundarlo.

Officers stopped the Holden and spoke with the driver, a 22-year-old man with a P2 provisional licence. He was subjected to a breath test and allegedly returned a positive reading.

The man was arrested and during a search of him, officers allegedly located a number of tablets, believed to be ecstasy. The drugs were seized and will undergo forensic examination.

The man’s utility was confiscated, licence suspended and he was issued an infringement for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.

He was taken to Gundagai Police Station where he allegedly returned a reading of 0.131. He was charged with mid-range drink-driving and supply prohibited drug.

He is due to appear at Gundagai Local Court on Friday 17 February 2017.
